All-Star Weekend: BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

TEAM SHAQ v TEAM CHUCK BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

Kenneth Faried powered Team Chuck to a 163-135 win over Team Shaq on Friday night with 40 points and 10 rebounds, earning him the BBVA Rising Stars MVP award. Kawhi Leonard and Tristan Thompson combined for 40 points for the game victors while Team Shaq were led by Kyrie Irving ‘s 32 point haul. Ricky Rubio weighed in with ten assists and his first found Anthony Davis, who netted a three to help Charles Barkley’s side into an early 13-5 lead.  A trio of triples from Isaiah Thomas, Leonard and Alexey Shved inspired a 13-2 burst to push the advantage out into double-figures. Thomas made three more scores from beyond the arc as the gap powered past 20 points before a late dunk from Bradley Beal made it 90-66 in favour of Team Chuck at the end of a continuous 20 minute half. Irving had eight points when play resumed as Team Shaq attempted to claw back their deficit in the second half. Rubio had four dimes in a row with Leonard benefiting from two with consecutive 3-pointers to take Team Chuck into three figures. Klay Thompson had seven points in quick succession for Shaquille O’Neal’s team but the damage had already been done and Faried finished with his side’s final eight points, all of which were throw-downs in preparation for the Dunk Contest, to take his tally to 40 and seal the win for Barkley for a second year running.
